MANOLO BLANHIK "THE GENIUOS"

Manolo Blanhik, born in the Canary Islands from a Spanish mother and Czech father, was raised on the island of La Palma, in the banana plantations owned by his parents.

He studied architecture and literature at the University of Geneva, but left school with the intention of studying art in Paris. In 1970 he moved to London where he got a job as a photographer in the Sunday Times.

He quickly entered the world of fashion, with friends like Eric Boman and Paloma Picasso. In 1983 he opened his first shop in Chelsea (London) under the name of Zapata.

Blanhik was awarded the honorary title of "Commander Of The British Empire.
"But surely his greatest success came from the hand's successful series "SEX AND THE CITY", where the main character, Carrie Bradshaw, was addicted to Manolos and each chapter shows several different pairs of Manolos. Today, his shoes are between 500 and 2500 dollars, having outlets in Madrid, New York and London.

Manolo Blanhik, nacido en las Islas Canarias, de madre española y padre checo; se crió en la Isla de la Palma, en las plantaciones plataneras propiedad de sus padres.

Estudió arquitectura y literatura en la universidad de Ginebra, pero dejó los estudios con la intención de estudiar arte en París. En 1970 se transladó a Londres donde consiguió un trabajo como fotógrafo en el Sunday Times.

Rapidámente se introdujo en el mundo de la moda, con amistades como Eric Boman y Paloma Picasso. En 1983 abrió su primera tienda en Chelsea(Londres) bajo el nombre de Zapata.

Blanhik fue reconocido con el título honorífico de " Commander Of The British Empire".

Pero sin duda su mayor éxito llegó de la mano de la existosa serie "SEX AND THE CITY", donde su protagonista, Carrie Bradshaw, era adicta a los manolos y en cada capitulo aparecen varios pares de manolos distintos.Hoy en dia sus zapatos están entre los 500 y 2500 dólares, teniendo puntos de venta en Madrid, Nueva york y Londres.
